For this weeks blog, I will be reviewing an item that I found while thrifting (which is a relaxing pastime of mine). The amount of obscure items that can be found in these types of stores is unreal. This specific item, The Ravioliera, happened to line up with my Chef Anonymous blog for that week of Crab and Cheese Stuffed Raviolis (See: https://cheftufaroanonymous.blogspot.com/2019/08/crab-and-cheese-stuffed-ravioli.html).
This item boasts the ability to simplify the ravioli making process by using a very durable grid tray, which looks much like an ice tray, and the ability to stuff and cut the ravioli into perfect shaped and sealed shells. It comes with a small wooden rolling pin and directions on the box. At first glance, I was very skeptical of this item by how simply it would make the production of raviolis if it worked.
Here is how it works:
- Sprinkle ravioli tray with flour.
- Place layer of pasta dough over tray (I use Egg Noodle Pasta Dough, See: https://cheftufaroanonymous.blogspot.com/2019/06/fresh-egg-noodle-pasta.html)
- Gently push dough down into fill circles.
- Place filling into crater, being careful not to over fill.
- Place second pasta dough layer over tray to cover.
- Using wooden roller, roll over tray to cut raviolis and seal.
- Flip tray over and raviolis will fall out ready to cook.
To my surprise, The Ravioliera was amazing! The production process this product uses is so simple in nature and very easy to duplicate. The filling stayed in the ravioli with no leakage during cooking and all 48 ravioli made were uniform in nature (almost looked machine made out of a bag).
Anyone who has made ravioli from scratch will tell you the hardest part is keeping the filling located where it needs to be while covering and sealing. This is eliminated by the use of this product.
The Eppicotispai Group really has something in this product. To the individual that donated this and tossed it aside, thank you. I will be keeping this one in my kitchen for future use. I definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to make raviolis from scratch.
